In a bit of early September hockey news that’s sure to pique your interest, the New York Rangers officially announced that Brian Leetch and Brad Richards have both been named Hockey Operations Advisors:

Richards, who retired from the NHL last summer, had been spending a fair amount of time at Rangers’ games last season as BlueshirtsBanter.com’s Tom Urtz noted back in April and May:

It appears his initial assessments were correct.

Drury has been on a fast-track with the Rangers front office, having recently been promoted to Assistant General Manager of the New York Rangers and General Manager of the Hartford Wolfpack. Jed Ortmeyer, another former Ranger, was recently named to his former position as Director of Player Personnel.

According to the Rangers’ press release, Leetch and Richards “will work with the hockey operations department in both hockey-related decisions along with off-ice player and prospect development”. This will apparently reach through the entire organization, through to the now Drury-run Hartford Wolf Pack.

  1. More grooming from the inside? Drury has his work cut out for him. Hartford is thin on talent but his main job HAS to be whomever is there gets really well-schooled in our system of play. Wofpack and NYR have to mesh seamlessly in case we need a injury call-up.
