Yay, more news! As the Rangers just confirmed, Jesper Fast will be wearing the number 17 this season:
— New York Rangers (@NYRangers) September 5, 2017
Fast, who wore the number 19 previously (as well as 31, 12, and 91), was in a bit of a pickle given the Rangers’ formal announcement to retire Jean Ratelle’s number 19 to the Garden rafters this coming February. It was unclear to this point if Fast would start the season wearing his old number 19 and change midway through the season, similar to how Michael Rozsival did the season the Blueshirts raised Harry Howell’s number 3 to the rafters, but this confirms he’ll simply adopt his new number from the onset.
In opting for number 17, Fast, who re-signed with the Rangers on a three-year ticket this past summer, will follow in the recent footsteps of players like Brandon Dubinsky (2008-2012), Mike Rupp (2013), and John Moore (2013-2015), all of whom adorned it on Garden ice.
