The pad design is an effort to show off the print technique that Bauer is using on their new line of Odin 2S pads, according to Lundqvist.
These pads prominently display the New York City skyline with buildings such as the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, and One World Trade Center. It also features an outline of Madison Square Garden’s iconic ceiling and, most interestingly, the the Statue of Liberty logo that was used on Rangers third jerseys in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
With the Rangers participating in the Winter Classic this season – visiting the Buffalo Sabres at Citi Field – one might speculate whether these new pads foreshadow a Liberty jersey “throwback.” Time will tell.
For now, what do you think of Lundqvist’s certainly unique pads?
