Lias Andersson was selected 7th overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft using the pick that the Rangers received from the Arizona Coyotes along with Anthony DeAngelo for Derek Stepan and Antti Raanta. The Swedish center is known for his strong two-way play. Given the lack of NHL centers the Rangers currently have signed, it is possible Andersson may be able to compete for a spot on the team this season.

“I want to compete for a spot,” Andersson said after Thursday’s scrimmage at prospect camp in Tarrytown. “They’re looking for centermen. I think I’m pretty smart out there, I’ve played with men for two years now, and I think my game will fit in pretty good with older players. We’ll see. I’m going to battle for a spot and it’s up to the coaches.”
