We all knew it was coming, although probably there was just an inkling of doubt. Dan Girardi, especially in the last couple of seasons, was a very polarizing figure. Still, he’s been a huge asset to the Rangers over the years, considering he was undrafted. If we get similar value from a Kevin Hayes, Jimmy Vesey or others, we’ll have to count our self lucky. A warrior to the end, even as his body failed him.

  1. beautiful. didn't think it's actually be done.
love the guy, appreciate that he constantly sacrificed his body for the team, but i'm glad i don't have to watch him "play" anymore.

I'm glad this has turned into a tribute.. Dude was an absolute warrior. I'm not sure any of us could ever at the end of a game/series/season, question his effort and dedication. Unfortunately, Mother Nature is undefeated. Getting old is a bitch.

I don't think any true Ranger fan could dump on this guy after all he gave to the organization.
Again, had they not blown the Cup Finals vs LA he'd be up on an even higher pedestal. The guy was all class and heart.

True and Blue Ranger. Hope most people remember him for his good years, and not so much for the later. He had much more good years than bad. Best of luck Dan, and thanks for your service!

Yeah, but Vegas has a window to sign UFA's before the expansion draft, don't they?
Right now the Rangers have an empty protection slot so I think they will Either trade Stepan for a younger D-man or sign-and-protect Smith.

Smith has said he wants to stay here if offered a fair deal. Just because Vegas can talk to him doesn't mean he'll sign with them. Unless Vegas offers a UFA crazy money, there is no reason to sign before July 1 when they can hear offers from all the teams.
    Long live the King
Pretty pointless. They can agree to a deal and just not sign till after the expansion draft is over. More likely it opens the door to trade for a D man another team is forced to leave unprotected...

Thanks for everything Girardi... aside from the aberrant passes that cost us playoff games
I keed, I keed. Overall he had a really nice 10+ years here. In his prime he was on of the better defensive D in the league. Unfortunately the type of game he plays is not really sustainable and caught up with him. Wish him luck wherever he ends up

To me you are the definition of a warrior and I will ALWAYS appreciate what you have done for me and our team over the years. Thank you G!!!"
