Another one bites the dust.

Shortly after 6 pm tonight, the New York Rangers announced the club has recalled defenseman Ryan Sproul from the Hartford Wolf Pack thanks to yet another long-term injury. This time to Steven Kampfer, who is expected to miss the next four-to-six weeks with a fractured hand:

Spiral, 25, is a right-handed shot who was acquired from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Matt Puempel earlier this season. Playing with the Wolf Pack since then, he’s registered nine goals and 18 points in 36 games.

Thanks to a slew of injuries the Blueshirts have suffered this year, Kampfer has averaged more than 20:00 per night over the last three Rangers games, but has just one assist in 22 games this season.

Now on the shelf for the next month or more, he’ll join a proverbial starting line-up, plus worth of injured Rangers that includes Kevin Shattenkirk, Chris Kreider, Pavel Buchnevich, Ryan McDonagh, Marc Staal, and Ondrej Pavelec.

Four of the six defensemen we will dress tonight were in the AHL a month ago. Amazing. If repeated scratches did not turn Smith around, it is unlikely that two games in the minors will, so it is probably best that he was not called right back. He won't be going to seven weddings this summer and getting out of shape. He should finish the year with the Pack and start training for next year.

Interesting that they didn't call up Smith.

    4 call-ups on D tonight. That's what we've always wanted, right?

If he was worth keeping around they wouldn’t have put him on waivers. I think management had enough of his play.

According to credible twitter sources, Sproul has been hot recently, both offensively and defensively.
